Pub Promotion and Preservation

CAMRA isn't just about beer and beer festivals. Alongside campaigns focussing on the beer itself are a number of activities that highlight the pubs and clubs of the country - after all, you need the pubs and clubs to stay open so you can drink the beer day in, day out!

In the Maidstone and Mid-Kent branch we participate in a number of activities that promote the pub and we campaign actively against pub closures.

Pub Promotion

Branch Pub of the Year Competition

Each year, around March, the branch meet to vote for the branch Pub of the Year, which then goes forward to the regional competition.

Pub Database

To support our activities, and as part of our work for the Good Beer Guide, we maintain a database on all of the pubs in our branch area. To help us to keep this database up to date we welcome completed database forms. These allow you to record details on the pub and to score the quality of the beer. To obtain your copies contact us.

National Beer Scoring System

If you are not local to our area, we would love it if you could tell us what you thought of the pubs you have visited. The National Beer Scoring Scheme (NBSS) is an easy to use system that has been designed to allow any CAMRA member from any part of the world to report beer quality on
any pub in the UK. This can also assist CAMRA branches in selecting pubs
for the Good Beer Guide.
Find out what to do here.

Pub Preservation

National Inventory of Historic Pub Interiors
There are no pubs in the branch area which are on the National Inventory. However, a full list of the country's best preserved interiors is available from the CAMRA heritage pubs website.

Other pubs with interior or exterior features worth preserving

The branch, along with others in Kent is in the process of compiling local lists of pubs of historic interest and we always welcome your suggestions and comments. Please take a few moments to email us and let us know about pubs you feel have important features to preserve.

Pubs Under Threat of Closure

We are always looking at ways we can help a pub or its community prevent a pub's closure. However, in all cases, early warning of problems is vital so that we can prepare documents and arrange meetings. If you know of a pub that is threatened by closure, please let us know about any pub that is under threat, where it is and details surrounding the closure by email.

Pubs In Time

Pubs in Time is a scheme that recognises that pubs have played a unique part in shaping history. 14 plaques have so far been awarded to pubs that have featured in significant events in time. Plaques are intended to recognise important events in the life of a pub not less than 30 years ago - unless there are exceptional circumstances.

All pubs in the UK are eligible as long as the significant event or activity happened on the premises.
Find out more and see a list of the pubs here.
